Joint Acting CIO, Head of Infrastructure Services and CIO for CIB, Barclays Africa Group Limited

As Joint Acting CIO for Barclays Africa Group, Andy is responsible for ensuring the stability, operation and ultimately transformation of the bank’s technology infrastructure, services and resources. Along with the technology executive team, he is driving the adoption of new ways of working and a new technology culture to accelerate the delivery of innovative, adaptable and customer-focused technology services and solutions to the business.

Andy’s portfolio includes the dual role of leading the Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) and Infrastructure Services divisions:

  • CIB delivers technology for Corporate, Payment, Risk Services, Algorithmic Trading (and market making) Prime Services, Trading Services, Product Control and Middle Office across the African continent.
  • The Infrastructure Services business unit is responsible for building and managing the operational framework for successful technology delivery within the Barclays Africa Group.

Prior to joining the Bank in 2011, Andrew spent more than 10 years at Barclays in the United Kingdom, first as a development manager for Front Office Trading and then as Head of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Algorithmic Trading IT, where he managed the development of the award- winning BARX trading platform. In 2009 he relocated with his family to South Africa as the Director of Equities and Algorithmic Trading IT for ABSA Capital, where he developed a market-leading multi-asset class algorithmic trading platform.

Andrew has highly technical background coupled with wide investment banking domain knowledge. He works on the boundary where quant, trading and technology meet, building stable, highly scalable environments running from a marginal cost base.

He holds an honours degree in Civil Engineering from Aston University, United Kingdom.
