Aubrey Mochela is the Group Executive Director for Group Information Communication Technology and Information Management at the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, following his tenure as the City’s Chief Technology Officer. With over 30 years of experience in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Mochela has been instrumental in driving digital transformation within the municipality. His journey with the City of Johannesburg began in 2014 as the General Manager for ICT at City Power, and he has a strong background in delivering ICT solutions tailored for both government and private sectors, focusing on innovation, cost efficiency, and operational performance.

As GCTO, Mochela is leading initiatives to enhance service delivery and optimise revenue management through smart city projects. He has played a key role in significant advancements, including the implementation of cloud technologies and network management solutions across South Africa and beyond. Mochela is committed to fostering partnerships and collaboration within the City to tackle challenges like cybersecurity and operational silos. His vision for Johannesburg encompasses integrating emerging technologies to create a fully digital smart city, driven by principles of good governance and community engagement.
