Ayn du Bazane is a Senior Fintech Analyst at the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) focussed on crypto assets. She is the Chair of the Intergovernmental Fintech Working Group’s (IFWG) Crypto Assets Regulatory Working Group (CAR WG), a regulatory structure that monitors and analyses the crypto asset ecosystem to inform and make recommendations to financial sector regulators, ultimately contributing to a comprehensive regulatory framework.
She is also the Co-Lead for the IFWG’s Regulatory Sandbox and previously co-lead the IFWG Regulatory Guidance Unit.
Prior to joining the SARB’s Fintech Unit, she was a Senior Payment Specialist in the SARB’s National Payment System Department. During her tenure, Ayn was responsible for non-banks, innovation (later ‘paytech’), and cyber resilience. She co-created and co-authored Vision 2025 and was a recipient of the Governor’s Team Award for the Interchange Determination Project.
She spent a year with the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) focussed on the Principles for Financial Market Infrastructures and cyber security.
She holds a Bachelor of Economics from Rhodes University, Postgraduate Diploma in Futures Studies (Stellenbosch) and successfully completed the Cambridge Digital Assets for Regulators programme with Cambridge University’s Judge Business School.
