Michael Awori is a seasoned banker with over 20 years of experience in investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, leveraged finance as well as development finance. Throughout his career, he has advised and executed over US$ 20 billion of capital markets and M&A transactions, in Africa, and globally.
As TDB’s Deputy CEO, Michael works closely with the CEO and Group MD on the execution of the Bank’s overall vision and mission. He is responsible for managing the Bank’s Operations Complex, which comprises the primary product houses, Trade Finance and Project & Infrastructure Finance, as well as the Advisory, Syndications and Co-Financing departments. He also manages the Bank’s Regional Coverage departments. In addition to product strategy development and execution, business development and the management of strategic multi-country client relationships, Michael also oversees the evaluation, structuring, negotiation, and syndication of all transactions.
Michael joined TDB in 2017 from Barclays where he spent 3 years establishing the bank’s debt finance business in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Prior to Barclays, he was at Citigroup in Chicago, where he advised global industrial clients on corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions. Before Citigroup, he spent nearly a decade with JPMorgan as a Vice President in the Corporate Banking division.
Michael holds a Master of Business Administration in Economics, Finance & International Business from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and is an economics graduate from Goshen College.
