Stephen Boakye is a Partner/Director at PwC South Africa and co-leads the firm’s Corporate Tax Consulting practice. With more than 16 years of experience in tax advisory and compliance, he specialises in helping financial institutions navigate complex tax matters across banking, insurance, asset management, and broader financial markets.

Stephen is widely recognised for his expertise in financial instruments taxation, debt structuring, receivables financing, securitisation programmes, and derivative instruments. Throughout his career, he has advised leading clients on the tax structuring of innovative financing solutions, including debt factoring arrangements, invoice discounting, trade finance programmes, and working capital optimisation strategies.

His experience extends to advising on the tax implications of complex financial products and transactions, helping organisations achieve tax-efficient outcomes while navigating evolving regulatory and compliance requirements. Stephen’s work is particularly relevant as financial services institutions explore the opportunities and challenges presented by digital assets, cross-border transactions, tokenisation, and emerging financial ecosystems.

Stephen holds an MCom in Taxation, an Advanced Financial Markets and Instruments qualification, and is both a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser.
