CEO of CITI and CEO of FinTech Circle Innovate UK on board for the 3rd annual Blockchain Africa Conference
Ian Merrington, a well-known thought leader in the South African blockchain community and CEO of Cape Innovation Technology Initiative (CITI), will be the Master of Ceremonies for the Blockchain Africa Conference 2017.
“Now in its third year this conference has rapidly developed into the leading Blockchain conference in Africa and the go to event for full immersion in global blockchain trends and use cases. The quality of the speakers has been widely acknowledged as being one of the best events of its kind, globally. This conference is unique in its convergence of global trends with African use cases and opportunities.” Ian Merrington
Bitcoin Events is also excited to confirm Nicole Anderson, CEO of London based, FinTech Circle Innovate, as the first speaker at the conference. Nicole will be speaking about investors’ role in the blockchain and their impact on global innovation.
The Blockchain Africa Conference 2017 will bring together a diverse range of local and international speakers who will discuss use cases in payments, settlements, KYC, AML, the blockchain as a service and identity management. Speakers will also discuss the opportunities that exist for using smart contracts and distributed ledger technology in finance, insurance and supply chain management, amongst others. In addition, the conference will address concerns around performance, scalability and the blockchain, including the challenges that regulators face with this technology.
The blockchain unlocks new opportunities in Africa, and offers advancements and innovation in various technological fields. This week, South Africa’s largest banks in conjunction with Strate (South Africa’s central securities depository) announced that they have set up a blockchain network among themselves, with the Reserve Bank (SARB) participating in an observer role. This is extremely significant and viewed as a positive step towards promoting the use of this technology to institutions – from government to financial and non-financial industries. It may potentially also reduce the traditional lag between innovation and regulation.
