8th Edition: Blockchain Africa Conference 2022: Ready for Business?
Since 2015, Bitcoin Events has been hosting the annual Blockchain Africa Conferences, the first of their kind in Africa. The popular conferences have attracted some of the top thought leaders and pioneers in the blockchain and cryptocurrency industries worldwide, including Charles Hoskinson, Founder and CEO of IOHK, Founder of Cardano, and Director of The Bitcoin Project; Sam Bankman-Fried, Founder at Alameda Research, and CEO and Founder of FTX; and Andreas M. Antonopoulos, security and distributed systems expert, coder, entrepreneur and author.
The conference themes have evolved in line with the global adoption of blockchain technology: ‘Beyond the Hype’, ‘From Hype to Mainstream’ and now ‘Ready for Business?’
As blockchain technology matures, we are seeing less blockchain experiments and more development of robust enterprise-ready solutions that are transforming many digital businesses. Topics will include the use of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology in areas such as Decentralised Finance (DeFi), enterprise adoption and implementation, cross-border payments, digital identification, agricultural and supply chain management, trade facilitation, Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs). Regulatory considerations across multiple jurisdictions, will also be an important focus area of the event.
Africa is adopting cryptocurrencies faster than its global counterparts – adoption has surged to more than 1 200% over the last year, and countries such as Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Tanzania are ranked in the top 20 of the 2021 Global Crypto Adoption Index. Africa is struggling with major infrastructure problems which, in return, means that many people don’t have access to a variety of basic services. This has made Africa a perfect fit for the adoption of both blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies to solve some of the challenges such as financial inclusion, and cheaper and faster transactions.
